The Hook
Nancy Forbes worked with Head Trainer Austin at Off Leash K9 Training of Richmond for two dogs with two different goals.
- Bo (11-month-old American Bully): completed a Board & Train program
- Winnow (5-year-old Pocket Bully): currently in the Aggressive Dog Training program
The Challenge
Bo’s Starting Point
Bo needed a real foundation, basic obedience, better focus, and calm leash walking around everyday distractions. Nancy wanted training that felt structured, but still positive and engaging for a young dog.

Winnow’s Starting Point
Winnow is highly leash reactive and dog reactive, and Nancy needed a clear plan she could follow between sessions—plus support when questions came up. The goal wasn’t “perfect overnight,” it was steady progress with safety and control.

The Diagnosis & Solution
Bo’s Board & Train Approach
Nancy shared that Austin consistently updated her with videos and explained what Bo improved on each day. She also felt Austin took extra time to build a relationship with Bo and made training fun—without losing structure.
Winnow’s Reactivity Plan
Winnow is currently working through the Aggressive Dog Training program, which is designed for dogs with aggression or reactivity around other dogs.
Owner Handoff + Support
Nancy called out how smooth drop-off/pick-up was, and that Austin spent over an hour at both pickup and drop-off answering questions and coaching her on how to run commands properly. She also appreciated being able to call or text when questions came up.
The Results
Bo’s Results
Bo came home with:
- Basic commands learned
- A noticeably calmer demeanor
- Better ability to walk on leash past distractions
- A stronger foundation Nancy can keep building on
Winnow’s Progress (In Training)
Winnow is still mid-program, but Nancy shared she’s very happy with progress so far. She mentioned it includes homework and daily practice—but that Austin is easy to learn from and clearly cares about helping Winnow work through fear/reactivity.
Owner Reaction
